St. Aldhelm's Church, Redcliffe, was deconsecrated in 2019 and converted into residential flats. The developer called it sympathetic conversion. The planning documents called it adaptive reuse. The building, apparently, had other ideas. It draws on real anthropological research into sub-liturgical continuity—the theory that sites of prolonged ritual use accumulate a structural resonance that persists beyond the cessation of formal practice.
